Here’s an odd kind of Star Trek book – Star Trek Pop-Ups.
The book was written by authors Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann and the artwork was created by paper engineer and graphic designer Courtney Watson McCarthy.
McCarthy has worked as a model builder and designer in a variety of fields before discovering the magic of movable books. In this creation, 7 iconic Star Trek moments will pop out of the page in three dimensions.
It’s a novelty item to be sure, but there is quality throughout. Those who like to solve puzzles can try to figure out how these 3D creations can come to life from a flat, 2D page.
McCarthy will be sign copies of Star Trek Pop-Ups next Wednesday, October 21st, at Oblong Books & Music, 6422 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck, from 6-7:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.oblongbooks.com/event/star-trek-pop-ups-artist-courtney-watson-mccarthy
