William Shatner And Leonard Nimoy

William Shatner has decided to set pen to paper and write a biography about his Star Trek co-star and longtime friend, Leonard Nimoy, giving us an inside look at the man and the relationship between the two actors (he interviewed Nimoy in Mind Meld in 2002 and on his Raw Nerve talk show in 2009).

According to Showbiz 411, Shatner is already writing the book tentatively titled, Leonard: A 50 Year Friendship which is due for publication in 2016.

Shatner and his co-writer on the project have reportedly interviewed almost everyone available from Nimoy’s past, and are helping to document an intimate look into the actor’s inspiring life. Despite a certain level of rivalry in Trek, Shatner and Nimoy developed a strong friendship that lasted through the decades since Star Trek first aired (though they had worked together before the series).

Shatner received a lot of criticism for not attending Nimoy’s funeral earlier this year but his daughters were present to represent him and his family. He also ran his Twitter Funeral where he recounted memories of Nimoy and answered questions from fans.

Nimoy’s son Adam was also trying to create a documentary about his father, running it as a KickStarter campaign until Shatner stepped in with financing. For The Love of Spock is expected to be released in 2016 as well, to coincide with Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary.
